I felt obligated to point out, once again, that the Judge and DA's office were clearly aware of Patton being a danger to the public. Whether or not the required statement was given to the defendant during his first 2 convictions, Ed and Judge were familiar with the law and they KNEW that Patton was considered dangerous [...] pursuant to 23593 of the Vehicle Code, that driving under the influence is an act so inherently dangerous to human life [...]. MAke all the excuses they want to... they should have never allowed this man to be on the streets!

After being convicted 3 times of ATTEMPTED MURDER (DUI) it's just so sad that Patton had to be successful in actually killing someone before our local justice personnel would consider him dangerous. I just don't get it.

If your a habitual drunk driver and have some thirty other casses aginst you what kind of affairs could you have to get in order? Good call judge! I wish I had a million dollars to bail his punk@*# out of jail...OH yea Merry Christmas & God bless everyone.

Why in the hell does Patton have to have more than 3 convictions before it becomes a felony? Multiple offenses, multiple convictions, multiple troubles with the law (31+ ??) and it takes an innocent man's death for you people to wake up and figure out that Patton is a dangerous man who threatens the safety of the public? Guess it's easy for Ed (et al) to defend the Judge when it wasn't his own family member whose life was lost. This story just disgusts me! My heart goes out to the family left behind to mourn.

Leave it to Kern County to grab the lynching rope-with both passion and prejudice. I wonder if this man would have been convicted if he was white and from the Stockdale area??

I worked with Keshawn, his father Charles and his brother CJ at the Bakersfield Californian for a few years until I left early 2008. Keshawn was not the kind of person who was into anything negative from what I knew of him. It is sad to see someone who is truly a good person go like that. My heart really goes out to his family and friends. I hope they find out who did this because just like his father said, its RIDCULOUS, and thats being modest. Keshawn, may GOD guide you now and help your family through hard times.

Keshawn Black was a cousin of mine. I am married into the family, and the family has accepted me with open arms. Keshawn himself was always kind and smiling. Never an angry or aggressive person. And for someone to take his life anger, hurts and saddens me. I can't explain the way I feel let alone my husband and brother in law that grew up with him. Keshawn.. Please know that we are all looking up to heaven we are all pouring our hearts and souls out. I watched your parents especially your father skid into the parking lot rushing to your mother. Your life was too short. As I look at the only photo I have of you tears stream down my face. You made a huge impact on my life. Thanks for dancing with me at my wedding! All my love Jamie Woolfolk

Dont hate the judge you elected him! If he felt this upstanding taxpayer had important things to do before serving a coulple weeks for some other meaningless charge (what was it DUI?)Besides isent that a disease? not drunk driving but not being able to controle you actions when you drink? Wow if a dumb ass like me knows that why dosent the judge?
